As our impact and reach grows, so too does our need for expert guidance and support. We are growing and looking to recruit incredible organizer for our Event Planner role.

Event Planner Overview:

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Event Planner to join our events team and coordinate several events during the year, including small, intimate dinners for our Founders Society, larger forums, and galas. The Event Planner will assist in sourcing venues, designing the attendee experience, and helping to make our team’s vision a reality.

The ideal candidate is experienced and/or excited about the events industry and is available during our events to plan remotely and if possible, attend in person. They should be detail-oriented, organized, and positive. The ability to think quickly and adapt to unforeseen circumstances is a plus.

Events are held in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City. It is ideal that the Event Planner can attend events in person, though this is not a must.

This role is entirely volunteer-based.

Key Expectations

  • Finalize the menu and work with restaurants or catering companies to confirm that the guests’ dietary restrictions are met

Board Operations Officer Overview:

The Advisory Board is one of the key pillars of Brighter Children's team, bringing a tremendous amount of experience and expertise, leveraging a powerful network, and making significant contributions towards fundraising objectives. The Board Operations team is comprised of volunteers who help ensure that key meetings, projects and outcomes stemming from the Advisory board run smoothly and remain on track. This includes planning, coordinating and attending key committee meetings, quarterly board meetings, as well as preparing associated materials. This team member will be highly organized, have a strong attention to detail, and help ensure not only smooth operation, but also capture execution and help support execution and follow-through. You will not be afraid to roll up your sleeves, manage through complexity and uncertainty, as well as hold senior members to account in a fast-growing start-up non-profit environment.

Content Writer Overview:

We are looking for talented Blogger to generate engaging, original content that aligns with Brighter Children’s strategic goals. The Blogger will research topics and develop interesting posts that will appeal to our target audience. You should be a skilled, tech-savvy writer who can create appealing, insightful posts that will reach and grow our audience.

You should be creative, adaptable, and analytical with excellent writing skills and a unique voice. Content will be published via Mailchimp and circulated to our other platforms via our marketing team.

Must Haves
  • Working towards or received a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in English, Communications or Marketing.

Associate Board Overview:

The Associate Board, which includes several passionate young leaders spanning different backgrounds and work experiences, supports Brighter Children's mission of providing primary education to children in impoverished communities.  We are looking for volunteers who share a passion for our mission, who can connect us to new networks to expand Brighter Children’s reach, and help drive growth and fundraising initiatives.  Our Associate Board team members meet monthly and dedicate time outside of their full-time jobs to help Brighter Children reach its annual goals.  No prior Non-Profit board experience is required to join!

  • Growth Strategy, Execution & Optimization: Create and own a multi-channel, evolving growth strategy based on product needs: SEO, social paid and community/influencer development, email marketing, web, etc. Design, launch and optimize campaigns across multiple online channels that meet financial and KPI objectives by getting our audience to take specific and measurable actions. Increase our reach, engagement and loyalty across all platforms. Uncover and leverage new emerging platforms to create new growth opportunities.
  • Lead Generation & Member Acquisition: Drive consumer traffic to website, landing pages, and social media with the intent of optimizing & increasing conversion rates. Convert insights into action.  Develop and implement a robust donor engagement/retention strategy to effectively manage donor churn.
  • Test & Learn: A/B test new and unique ideas based on a deep understanding of data. You will be able to immediately see the impact of your work.

In addition to attendance of the quarterly Brighter Children Board Meeting, Advisory Board members take on an advisory role via key aligned committees, working with aligned management and Executive Board members to support the progress of key business challenges and outcomes.

Brighter Children (BC) is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organization.
Our mission is to find and fund local schools in order to give the gift of education to deserving children in some of the most impoverished communities in the world. Our Vision? Universal Primary Education. There are 250 million children today who cannot read, write, or do basic mathematics. Brighter Children currently works with partner schools in impoverished communities across Kenya, India, Colombia, and Honduras. We provide children who otherwise would have no opportunity for primary education or are at risk of dropping out of school with annual scholarships and access to quality education.

Director of Finance (Volunteer Position) Overview:

We are looking for a passionate volunteer with a background in accounting/finance to become the next Director of Finance of Brighter Children. Note that this is a volunteer position that will require 2-5 hours a week on average. As with all of our volunteer positions, there will be an initial three month trial period.

Must Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or finance
  • Strong knowledge in excel, accounting and financial statement preparation
  • Financial non-profit experience
  • Ability to think critically about financial reporting questions
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Be enthusiastic, a team player, and a self-starter
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for overseeing cash flow activity and keeping thorough records
  • Work with our Executive Director and management team members to prepare annual budgets and track KPIs against the budget; analyze trends
  • Work with BC’s Finance Associates to maintain monthly financials on QuickBooks and to review their reports
  • Responsible for annual filings of Form 990 to IRS, as well as annual filings to NYS and CA nonprofit regulatory boards
  • Oversee our Professional Employer Organization to ensure proper salary payment and health/benefits coverage for full-time employee
  • Oversee and coordinate the CPA review/audit process, and ensure timely completion
  • Provide management team with monthly fundraising updates (funds raised to date, as well as expenses spent to date)
  • Lead monthly/quarterly meetings with the Finance Committee (comprised of Board members)
  • Send funds to our partner schools on an annual basis
  • Communicate with our partner schools on their annual costs to sponsor a child and review updates as needed
  • Keep accurate record of expense receipts
  • Prepare and send donation receipts to donors as needed
  • Protect organization’s value by keeping information confidential
